The success of the single "Heavy Metal Love" in the U.S. and of the album No Rest for the Wicked had increased expectations in the band. We were one of the hottest bands in Canada, right on the verge of breaking out big time. We knew that our next album would be crucial to our success, and there was a lot of pressure to produce. Our manager Bill Seip moved out of his apartment so Paul and I could live there and write together. We were so broke that I remember we used to go into Wendys and load up with creamers and little bags of sugar because we couldn't afford to buy it on our own. When we were writing, I always drank tons of coffee.

It was at the apartment that we wrote Feel the Fire. We put Rock You onstage for the first time at the El Rosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio the same night we also showcased the song Animal House. Rock You had been sent to us from Bob Haligan, through his manager Barry Bergman via our producer Tom Truemouth. At first we didn't want to do the song! We already had two songs with the word "rock" in them (You Keep me Rockin' and My Kind of Rock). We didn't think we needed a third, but Tom and Bill Seip talked us into it. It was the best decision we ever made. The song became an almost instant hit, and the video took off. Within weeks we had gone from bar slugs to stars. Suddenly every second day we were flying around doing interviews and there were line-ups when we pulled into foreign places like Washington, D.C. The success of the song Rock You was so phenominal that we went from gold to platinum in two weeks and landed on a fantastic tour with Quiot Riot and Whitesnake. The tour took us all over the U.S., to Europe with Motorhead, and in Canada we toured or played with great Canadian bands like Triumph, Streetheart and the Headpins. We also had another huge hit with the song (Make Me Do) Anything You Want and with the song Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'. In the video for the song was porn queen Traci Lords, who we found out years later was only 15 years old.
