... & OTHER ODDBALL STORIES

Helix lead vocalist Brian Vollmer recently received a rude awakening from the Motor City Madman himself, Ted Nugent. While hosting a week-long "Wake Up With Ted" show on radio station WLLZ in Detroit, Michigan, Nugent called Vollmer early one morning and played his wild brand of screaming guitar right into the phone. A groggy Vollmer thought he was caught in the middle of some "scream dream" (to quote a certain Nugent-ism) until Terrible Ted confessed to the prank. The pair then struck up a friendly conversation live on the air, in which they discussed the insanity of life on the road.

Speaking of the road life, Helix partied recently with the Georgia Satellites at a club called Danny's while they were in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the guys nearly missed that opportunity due to two uncooperative tires that blew on their "Motor Home From Hell" on the way to Atlanta. But the band persisted, and all ended well as Helix "limped their way into the heart of the South," Vollmer laughs.
