On the way from Louisville, Kentucky to Los Angelos, California, we had a one hour stop over in Houston, Texas. Upon returning to our seats, Fritz informed me that he had just gotten drunk with Tom Jones and his son in the bar. Seems that they had just finished a tour and they were both hammered.
When we landed at LAX in Los Angelos I was walking up the tunnel to the terminal when I looked to my right and who was there, TOM JONES! He obviously had had a few drinks and was stumbling along with his hands in his pockets. I offered him my handshake, blurting out that I wanted to just say "hello" and that he had just been drinking with the drummer from my band, etc. That's when he turned to me and started talking in a thick Welsh accent made even more unintelligible by the fact that he had been drinking. He continued to talk and I didn't have a clue as to what the hell he was saying. By this time we had reached the top of the ramp and his son pulled up with one of those little golf cart type of things that you see at airports, and they wisked him away.
He had told Brent and Fritz that he was coming to the Center in the Square in our hometown of Kitchener and we were all welcomed to come out to the show, and sure enough, he was good to his word. Brent Doerner and Bill Seip went (I could kick my butt that I didn't) and said that they were given the "red carpet" treatment by him and that the show was fantastic. |
