This was our second year as a band. Already Rick Trembley, or minstrel as we called him, had left the band, and we were starting to get the odd date at high schools. Most of these dates we bombed…
Bruce Arnold had been bugging an agent from Dram Booking Agency by the name of Bill Seip to come and see us play. Finally, in desperation to get us off his back, he agreed to come see us if we would stop pestering him. It was to be our first club date at a place called the Twin Gables, in my home town of Listowel , Ontario , Canada . By this time Ron Watson had left the band to be replaced by Brent Doerner, who would be a member for the next 16 years. When Seip came out, he offered not only to book us, but to manage us as well. This lead to a love / hate relationship that would last until the mid-nineties when we both agreed to part company.
When I look back on these early years of the band, I do so with great fondness. It was a very special time for us. I can recall going through all the things that bands go through when they first start out. Brent , for instance, was a real little shi#% disturber, and was always either getting himself or the band into trouble. He had a real "I-don't-give-a-f #%k" type of attitude when he joined. Ironically, he was the best musician in the band, and would develop into a leader and solid member who would be with us for the next 16 years. It was with the addition of Brent and Bill that our lives would change forever.
Some bands on the circuit with us at this period: Major Hooples Boarding House, Mackenzie, Charity Brown and Fludd
